Balthus

Balthasar Klossowski (1908-2001). Polish-French artist. Considered one of the great masters of 20th-century art. His work, diverse and ambiguous, followed a path virtually contrary to the development of the avant-garde. The artist himself explicitly points out some of his influences in the art-historical tradition, from Piero della Francesca to Caravaggio, Poussin, Géricault and Courbet. A closer look also reveals references to more modern movements. In his detachment from modernity, which could be classified as postmodern, Balthus developed a personal and unique form of avant-garde art (Museo Thyssen Bornemisza. Nd).
