FRANCISCO FARRERAS
Barcelona, (1927)
The painter Francisco Farreras Ricart (Barcelona, 1927) died on 7 September. He was one of the great artists of the Spanish abstract avant-garde of the 1950s with his own recognisable language.
He studied in Madrid, at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, where he met a whole generation of artists who wrote the history of Spanish art in the second half of the 20th century.
There he met Juana Francés, with whom he became a great friend. Later, in Paris, he met Eusebio Sempere, with whom he always maintained a close relationship.
As a result of this friendship, the 20th Century Art Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante exhibits a fantastic Collage nº 790 in silk and oil on board dated 1976. And years later the artist himself decided to donate an exquisite wooden relief representing his later period, Relieve nº 552 A, from 2001, which is on display in the MACA Library.
